NUEVA ACRÓPOLIS CONVENTION CENTER
Chincha, Ica 2006
The building, designed in an agricultural plot with an area of 8 ha, located 10 minutes away from the city of Chincha, was conceived as a convention center for national and international members of the cultural institution Nueva Acrópolis.
The building, with a built area of approximately 12,000m2, is designed to host 270 people and contains a library, a dining area for 300 people, a cafeteria, an auditorium for 1,000 people, classrooms, 2 pools (summer and winter), a sports area with football fields and volleyball, a camping area, an orchard and an artificial lake with an area of 1000m2.
The project is organized as a sequence of plazas and gardens with seeks to permanently connect all the activities occurring in the complex with each other and with the surrounding nature. The transition between interior and exterior becomes part of daily experiences. The connection with nature, the constant presence of water elements, as well as the selection of natural materials for the architecture, respond to the intention of creating a sensation of peace and quietness in all the spaces so that the urban rhythm to which all the users are accustomed to is slowed down.
The edifice was planned as a one-story structure that could grow and expand at different times, depending on the financial assistance provided for the development of the project. Local building materials were used such as stone, wood and adobe and a detailed study was developed for ventilation and sunlight to avoid the use of artificial climate controllers.
